Most parents become lost and often wonder what they should be doing as parents. Here are some things that are identified as pretty much general parenting basics that will go a long way.
- Treat your child with utmost respect.
- Be polite to your child.
- Avoid nagging, hitting, or yelling at your child.
- Be very consistent. It does not do well to switch from permissive to strict in a heartbeat.
- Make sure that the rules you have set apply to everyone and that there are no special cases.
- Encourage your child in all instances.
- Avoid criticism.
- Express love all the time – tell him or her “I love you” etc.
- Be generous when it comes to hugs, kisses, pats, and smiles.
- Do thing you both enjoy.
- Take time to have fun for both of you.
- Tell him or her to ask questions when something confuses her.
- Do not humiliate your child.
- Do not compare one child to another.
